It’s been out there since the beginning of time – yet only recently have we been able to take and store its power for our use – and it can save a household thousands rather than relying on traditional electricity – so why aren’t you using it? It is being used in everything from handheld calculators to satellites orbiting the Earth. Here are a number of compelling reasons why you should.
The International Energy Agency (an autonomous organization which works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for its 28 member countries and beyond.)said in 20011 that: “the development of affordable, inexhaustible and clean solar energy technologies will have huge longer-term benefits. It will increase countries’ energy security through reliance on an indigenous, inexhaustible and mostly import-independent resource, enhance sustainability, reduce pollution, lower the costs of mitigating climate change, and keep fossil fuel prices lower than otherwise. These advantages are global. Hence the additional costs of the incentives for early deployment should be considered learning investments; they must be wisely spent and need to be widely shared”.
So how does one get started? You will need solar panels, generally installed on the rooftop of a building. The cells are made of semiconductor materials like those found in computer chips. When sunlight hits the cells, they convert sunlight into DC power. But then, that stored energy needs to be stored in a battery until we need it. The DC power from the solar panels is then sent to a solar inverter, and is converted into AC power, or standard electrical current used to power your home.
Saves money. Increases Home value. With tax incentives, solar electricity can often pay for itself in less than a decade. Use has grown 20% a year for the past decade, and efficient systems are constantly lowering their prices. SEIA, (Solar Energy Industries Association), is “the voice of the solar industry at the federal and state level, advocating for the protection and expansion of the U.S. market for all solar technologies” – and anyone interested in the possibility of making the Earth and Family friendly choice of solar energy should have a look at their website for not only statewide tax incentives, but for registered and trusted installers, and industry news.
Less reliance on Oil. Power even in Power Failures. Good for our Mother Earth (and its inhabitants, too!) Beyond the monetary benefits solar energy can provide, we can be proud that we can reduce the climate-warming greenhouse gases that burning coal and natural gas emit.
